Open Days & Institution Visits
Make the most of a campus visit or virtual open day before you apply.
In short
Open days (open dagen) let you visit a Dutch institution, sit in on sample classes and talk to current students and staff before you apply, most institutions run at least one general open day a year, plus programme-specific info sessions.
What to expect
- Campus tours and a look at teaching facilities.
- Sample lectures, workshops or taster classes.
- One-on-one conversations with admissions staff and current students.
- Increasingly, online or virtual formats aimed specifically at international visitors.
Getting the most out of a visit
- Prepare specific questions about your target programme, not just general ones.
- Ask about class sizes and teaching style to get a feel for WO versus HBO.
- Ask current international students directly about housing and city life.
- Check whether attending affects application priority, usually it doesn't, but confirm with the institution.
Can't travel?
Most institutions also run virtual open days, webinars and one-on-one video calls with admissions officers for applicants who can't visit in person, check your target institution's own admissions page for the current schedule.
